Title
William C. Jason Hall at Delaware State University
Rationale
Understanding the history and everyday life of leaders in Black education.
Description
This photo is of the president's house at Delaware State University, a historically Black public college. This home was lived in and named after William C. Jason, the longest-serving president in the institution's history. In 1919, when this photo was taken, Delaware State University was called The State College for Colored Students.

The photograph was taken by Jackson Davis, an educational reformer and amateur photographer who took nearly 6,000 photographs of African American schools, teachers and students throughout the Southeastern United States. His photographs — most intended to demonstrate the wretched conditions of African American schools in the south and to show how they should be improved — provide a unique view of southern education during the first half of the twentieth century.
